Two of the most common types of wood floors we’re asked about are solid and engineered. Solid wood, as the word suggests, is simply made from a single piece of timber. Engineered wood is a man made product with a top wear layer (lamella) that is also manufactured from solid wood. However, the underneath is constructed using a method where multiple sheets of plies that are layered on top of one and other in opposite directions and laminated together. This cross ply construction is highly stable and durable and stops the plank from expanding and contracting due to changes in humidity in the air. Whether you choose solid or engineered the end look will be the same.
